Characters installed on servers

Post  [CBS]Alligators427 on Sun Dec 26, 2010 9:06 am

Hi Killya, I'd like to know which special charaters we can use on CBS server, not default ones of course, for examples : i know you play with the savior ( when you was able to play Crying or Very sad ), so can you write a list, can you tell me if you can add more if someone would like to have his character?

For others players : Are you interrested in "custom" characters ?

Hello Alli,

I would like to refer to this post, Ogami Itto opened.

http://cbs-training.hightoxic.com/t111-your-ut3-custom-character

Unfortunately UT3 still does not support custom characters, if they are not installed on each players computer. Evil or Very Mad

If you choose a custom one, let Ogami Itto know what char you have - he will add it to the post and if needed upload to our server :-)

Have a great day with many headshots ;-)

I have the same Problem but i hope i found an really clever soloution. I hope it works.
So imagine we would build a map with the Custom mesh as an animation Mesh in the level. I was thinking about it because if both player installed the same Custom mesh they see another. So i guess they are not visible because they donīt have Materials or Animation tree etc. when you did not installed it but you Unreal Tournament will send information to the Server what Charackter you have. So you only need the Materials and so on and here we go.

If this work there is only one problem. There must be a selection which modells are allowed to the Server and even if we could use it from the guy who mades the Avatar....

But maybe i can be totally wrong, please correkt me if i am wrong Smile

I do not understand enough about how that stuff works - as I already said, it is not very smart to do this map related. Maybe you could get it working that way,
but in that case only few maps will offer this "feature" and players will be irritated about when, how and why they can see other characters - or can't see them.

Even if the authors would give their OK for using material from their characters for something like this, it needs a lot of time for trial & error testing...

One interesting in the last link

"There is a way to push custom models, but it requires either the gametype such as "Galtanor's Invasion" to "call" for the model, or a custom mutator to do the same.

The latest version of Galtanor's Invasion (22) actually uses an outside package for the two latest monsters (well one is an exploding babydoll..lol) and a mutator that must be called in your commandline to force the .upk file to download to the client.

If you want to see the package you can d/l the "Dollbomb" model and mutator here (http://forums.beyondunreal.com/showthread.php?t=181297)

I know this doesn't really give you what you need to push your models, but so far this is the ONLY way I have seen it done. "

Maybe this could be an option to include custom characters in our existing CBS game mod.

Maybe Oga can contribute something to this with his opinion Cool

Well i was thinking about it, it would be easier to make an community patch with the most library of custom Models and keep the patch up to date. So the User can decide if he wants to install it or not. Even this is a good deal for all people who makes custom meshes. How aboutr that idea? flower

Yes, much easier, but I think we won't reach to many people without spreading the word to all.. and that again, and again...
Most of the regular players don't really care much about game enhancements like custom characters - and some never heard about smth. like that.. ;-)

What I want to say with this is:
we won't reach the goal (custom chars automatically for all) if it won't be done in a game modification (however this could be excecuted..)
